Native Artistry is a unique exhibition allowing craft-based business owners, artisans, and artists to present their products in an open and public setting to visitors and potential customers. We have shifted the event to occur at the end of November, at Six Seasons Hotel in Gulshan.

Artisans have been an integral part of Bangladesh since its early beginnings whether you think of wood carvers, brass works, pottery, weavers, jewelry-makers or any other artisan craft it has been developed over centuries with skills handed down from Mother to daughter and Father to son.

Sadly, this rich sector of our society is fading.

  • For generations, Dhamrai has been the house of crafts like metal casting and pottery. Once Dhamrai used to be a whole craft village but now other occupations have come into being reducing the handicraft-based jobs.
  • Even the most skilled of our artisans are leaving their age-old professions and taking up other occupations to accommodate their livelihood.

In fact, local artisan craft will completely disappear from the tapestry that is Bangladesh, if we do not promote them both here and abroad.

Artisan Categories at Native Artistry:

  • Jute craft
  • Metalcraft
  • Nakshi kantha or embroidered quilts are made and used almost everywhere in Bangladesh.
